Feminist Frequencies

Honors Thesis Project for the Global Citizen Honors Program at the University of Olivet

Produced in the Spring of 2024

As a part of the Global Citizen Honors Program at the University of Olivet, I had to produce a thesis project on a topic of my choosing throughout my senior year. I chose to focus of female broadcasters, as I was raised and socialized as a woman and am no stranger to the impact of sexism in a male-dominated field. In my research, I discovered that women have been broadcasting from the very beginning, although their names are often not listed alongside their male counterparts.

Throughout this project, I explored the stories of women in broadcast through the ages, telling their stories and discussing the impact they had on the industry, and exploring how their relationships to other people in their lives helped them to succeed.

For this project, I chose seven women from the United States, as well as one female-led radio station from Tennessee in the 1950s, to discover their stories and discuss their contributions to the broadcast industry.
